What is naturopathic medicine?

One of the biggest dilemmas of today’s health care is that it largely employs pharmaceutical drugs that are designed to control symptoms. For example, statins are prescribed for high cholesterol and blood pressure medication is prescribed for high blood pressure. There is no dispute that these drugs save lives and serve an important role in today’s health care. They can allow for comfort that enable one to continue to work towards better health. However, although symptoms of an illness are important to address, it is not were treatment should stop.

Symptom relief is not the true answer to our health issues because it does not address the underlying cause. If you stop your blood pressure medication and your high blood pressure returns, the cause was not addressed. Symptoms can be thought of as our body’s cry for help; a way to tell us that something is not running smoothly as it should. When these symptoms are covered up and forgotten with medications, the disease still exists and over time will cause other symptoms in the body to appear as the disease process continues to progress.

Naturopathy follows a holistic approach to health care in that the whole person is treated and recognizes that each aspect of a persons health (physical, mental, environmental and emotional) are all intricately related. Naturopathic medicine stands distinct from conventional medicine in its philosophy of healing. The ultimate goal of naturopathy is to promote optimal health in an individual by finding and addressing the underlying cause of their condition, rather than focusing on the symptoms of the disease the individual has.

Our role as a naturopathic doctor is to get to know our patients and to learn and understand their health goals so that together, we can reach them. We aim to educate and get our patients actively participating in their swim upstream towards health. We provide individualized treatments that are safe, natural, and are tailored to each person’s unique set of needs and health goals.

IV Glutathione therapy

Therapeutic service offered by Dr. Briana Peddle and Dr. Sarah Nyrose

What is Glutathione?

(Article extrapolated from, IV Glutathione Therapy in Vancouver)

Glutathione is an essential antioxidant produced naturally by the liver–but can also be found in some meats, fruits and vegetables. As the human body is constantly fighting off a plethora of toxins and chemicals through exposure to environment, poor diets and poor lifestyle choices, glutathione is needed to help neutralize and counteract the effects of these harmful toxins. Once glutatione levels are depleted, the body becomes more susceptible to illness. Naturopathic doctors give glutathione intravenously to act as an immune system booster, aid in systemic detoxification, and help treat a number of illnesses, such as heavy metal overload, diabetes, anemia, poor egg/sperm quality, fatty liver disease, and more.

How It Works

Glutathione is crucial for many processes in the human body, including immune system maintenance, tissue building and repair, and making proteins and chemicals needed in the body. It is considered a ‘potent antioxidant’ and helps to eliminate dangerous free radicals. Glutathione binds to toxins in the body through a process referred to as “conjugation” to allow these toxins to be safely expelled. IV glutathione is typically more effective than oral glutathione. Stomach acids and enzymes break down the oral method, rendering it nearly useless. IV glutathione delivers the nutrient directly to the bloodstream and into the cells.

Our IV Glutathione Treatment Options

IV glutathione has been proven to be an important defense against toxins, diseases, radiation, pollutants, and oxidative stress. Low levels of this vital antioxidant has been linked to a number of diseases, including Multiple Sclerosis, Cancer, Parkinson’s disease, AIDS, Atherosclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, male infertility, pregnancy complications, and cataracts. White blood cells are an essential component of the body’s major defense system. Glutathione is needed to optimize their function and help white blood cells to keep fighting against disease.

Intravenous glutathione can be used in the treatment of

  • Poor egg and sperm quality/motility
  • Heart disease
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Alzheimer’s disease
  • Cataracts
  • Stroke
  • Lung disease
  • Cancer
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Diabetes
  • Macular degeneration
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Asthma
  • Liver disease
  • Depression
  • Useful to prevent radiation injury BEFORE treatment is started
  • Important chelator of lead, mercury, cadmium, arsenic
  • Can prevent or reverse alcohol induced fatty liver, cirrhosis, hepatitis
  • Improves prognosis of stroke victims
  • Useful in any condition where there is oxidative damage such as from toxins.

Why It’s Needed

As we grow older, the natural levels of glutathione in the body become lower and lower at the rate of about 10 percent every ten years. A deficiency in this crucial antioxidant can result in a number of health conditions. Research has shown that delivering glutathione intravenously can make up for this depletion. Only a properly formulated IV therapy can provide the body with the essential building blocks to produce its own sufficient levels of glutathione naturally. IV glutathione begins to work right away, giving the cells a much larger percentage of the compound. It acts as a safe, convenient way to boost your glutathione levels for a healthier life and better wellbeing.

Results of IV Glutathione Therapy

Intravenous glutathione injections have provided remarkable results to patients within hours of administration. When taken with vitamin C, it has been shown to whiten the skin and reduce blemishes, including acne – resulting in a flawless complexion. There is generally no down time and the procedure is typically finished within thirty minutes.

Glutathione can also:

  • Boost the immune system
  • Slow down the aging process
  • Increase concentration
  • Reduce inflammation
  • Increase recuperation after exercise
  • Detoxify and enhance the liver
  • Increase energy levels

Generally, intravenous glutathione will be administered 1 to 3 times per week over a 1 to 3 month period for maximum clinical benefits. A custom treatment plan will be designed to ensure that you maintain the improvements in your health over time. As the most potent antioxidant, glutathione can benefit everyone. Discuss with your naturopathic doctor to find out if you could benefit from Glutathione IV`s specifically.

Have You Tried Acupuncture Yet?

Acupuncture is used for an array of conditions and concerns and has shown efficacy in studies for the following:

  • Chronic pain
  • Acute pain
  • Headache
  • Hypertension
  • Menopausal hot flashes
  • Postoperative nausea and vomiting
  • Chemotherapy induced nausea

Acupuncture is a therapy that originated in China over 2000 years ago, making it one of the oldest medical practices in the world. It is founded in the theory that the world is dynamic, and that illness is a result of an imbalance of the body, both internally and in relation to the external environment. In traditional Chinese medicine there are a total of 365 acupuncture points. The acupuncture points are connected by 14 channels, which run throughout the body, and are associated with specific organs. Each acupuncture treatment is individualized, and the practitioner will use fine, sterile needles at specific points to shift one’s constitution towards balance, promote pain relief and relaxation.

While there are multiple explanations for the effects of acupuncture, the most studied is pain relief. Scientists believe that the acupuncture needles cause a release of endorphins at the spinal level, which reduces our perception to pain.

Acupuncture is a safe and effective way to treat an array of conditions, and to improve overall well being.
