Prevent winter illness in the summer with Acupoint Herbal Patching Therapy
What is Summer Acupoint Herbal Patching Therapy?
The Summer Acupoint Herbal Patching Therapy also called SanFu Tie in Chinese, is a procedure in Traditional Chinese Medicine/Acupuncture in which herbal patches are placed on various acupuncture points on the body during the hottest days of summer. This therapy originated in the Qing dynasty and is very popular in China. In recent years it also has become popular in North America.
How does it work?
This method is based on the principle of “winter disease, summer cure”. As SanFu (三伏) is the hottest period on the Chinese calendar when human body has the highest point of “Yang”. With the help from the nature’s heat energy, the pores in our skin are more open to absorb this specially mixed herbal paste, which improves the body’s immune system.
Ideally, patients need to come and get patched 3 times during the hottest days of summer. The acupuncturist applies patches on different acupoints during this short procedure. The patient can then go about their day and remove the patches in about 2 hours.
